The boy from Huamantla who went far
The first gray hairs are already appearing in his hair. Carlos Rivera, the winner of The Academy in 2004, turns 40 years old this week. And he does it with a clear perspective.
“I feel like I’m missing a lot and I like to know it, because it motivates me to continue doing things.”
He doesn’t talk about awards or diamond records. For him, the real achievement is something else.
The pride of saying ‘I’m from Tlaxcala’
Born in Huamantla, the smallest state in Mexico, Rivera never forgets his roots. His greatest trophy is not in a display case.
“For me the most important thing is to say that I am Mexican, from Tlaxcala, proud of who I am and where my family comes from.”
He assures that he never sought fame or money. What moves him is being an example. May some child see his path and think: ‘if he could do it, so can I.’
He applies that idea to his own son, León, three years old.
Happiness did not wait for success
His philosophy is simple: joy was not a future goal, but the path.
“I was going to be happy singing wherever I went… I didn’t wait to be successful to be happy; I have been happy at every stage.”
He fondly remembers those small concerts in the streets of his town. Today it fills bullrings, but the essence is the same.
Personally, life also smiles at him. He has been with Cynthia Rodríguez for a decade, they married in 2022 and their son was born the following year. A chain of events that he never planned in detail.
“I am in a stage of stability, in the place where I want to be… It is much better than I imagined.”
At 40, Carlos Rivera does not look back with empty nostalgia. Look forward, grateful and wanting more. With the simplicity intact of the child who dreamed of meeting his idols and ended up becoming one.
