From the ICU to your home: this is how Bolsonaro’s prison changes
Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is no longer in a hospital. Not in a cell either. This Friday he was discharged to continue serving his 27-year sentence from his residence in the exclusive Jardim Botânico urbanization in Brasilia.
The Supreme Court authorized the measure due to its delicate status, although it will review it in 90 days. A decision that mixes health, justice and politics in a single movement.
What’s happening with your health?
Bolsonaro, 71, has been having problems since that stab wound in 2018. This time it was pneumonia, with kidney and inflammatory complications, which sent him to intensive care on March 13.
After several days under close observation, doctors deemed his condition stable enough. Enough to change the hospital for his home, where he will live with his wife Michelle and his daughter Laura.
The Supreme Court made the decision considering his state of health. This measure will be reviewed within 90 days.
Now the clock is ticking. He has three months to recover while serving his sentence for attempting to disrupt institutional order. Ninety days that could change the rules of the game again.
The question that remains is simple: is this just a medical pause or the beginning of a new legal chapter? The Supreme Court will have the last word.
