Governor of Puebla puts pressure on real estate companies with expropriations
The morenista president Alejandro Armenta warned companies in the real estate sector of the possibility of expropriating land if they do not give up land for housing projects for police elements. The measure would particularly affect Grupo Proyecta, which was required to donate two hectares within a period of 30 days, under the threat of confiscating twice the area.
Ultimatum and formal warnings
«Proyecta Group: two hectares in one month or I proceed to the expropriation of 4 hectares. With all love, eh? », declared the governor. The formal notification was delegated to José Luis García, Cabinet coordinator, extending the warning to other developers such as Haras, owned by Carlos Haghenbeck.
Armenta justified the action by pointing out the need for 10,000 decent homes for state agents, criticizing the track record of some companies: “They have extracted natural resources such as water and accumulated wealth without adequately rewarding the community.”
Grupo Proyecta, with a presence in Puebla, Guanajuato and Yucatán, now faces unprecedented government pressures. The president emphasized that corporations must “return” benefits to society.
