Diagnosis and recovery
Christian Pulisic, a star of the United States national team, suffered a fracture in his right leg during the defeat against Belgium in the round of 16 of the World Cup. The United States Soccer Federation reported that the player has a bone contusion and a microfracture in the tibia and fibula.
The diagnosis was confirmed after an X-ray and MRI performed on Tuesday. Had Pulisic advanced in the tournament, he would not have been able to continue. However, he is expected to return to training before AC Milan’s debut in Serie A, scheduled for August 23 against Torino.
The injury occurred in the 52nd minute of the match in Seattle, when Pulisic attempted a shot and hit the leg of Belgian captain Youri Tielemans. He remained on the field visibly resentful and was replaced in the 59th minute by Sebastian Berhalter.
Pulisic failed to score at the World Cup, missed one of the team’s five games with a calf injury and left early in two other games. He has 30 goals in 90 international appearances. The attacker, who will turn 28 in September, faces his fourth season with Milan.
