A scandal that shakes the foundations of Puebla
The Governor Alejandro Armenta has unleashed a political storm by threatening to expropriate lands of businessmen if they refuse to donate them for the construction of police housing. Opposition legislators have not hesitated to describe this act as blatant blackmail and an attack on private property, in a turn that has left the state in suspense.
The threat that ignited the controversy
With an ultimatum of just 30 days, the Morenoist president demanded that the Proyecta Group hand over two hectares of land, warning that if they did not comply, double that amount would be taken from them by force. Rubén Moreira, PRI leader, vehemently denounced: “It is pure blackmail: ‘If you don’t give, I’ll take more from you.’ It reveals a disdain for the law and private investment.” Meanwhile, the PAN member Federico Döring called it “institutional robbery”, swearing resistance to what he called “the cooperas or neck of Armenta.”
In the midst of the chaos, Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of Morena, urged the governor to opt for dialogue rather than force. However, the night closed with an unexpected twist: according to local media, Proyecta relented and will donate the requested hectares, although the echo of the accusations still resonates in the corridors of power.
