An epic clash between power and law
In a dramatic turn that has shaken the foundations of Puebla, businessmen raised their voices against Governor Alejandro Armenta, whose ultimatum to expropriate land for police housing unleashed a storm of indignation. The Employers’ Confederation (Coparmex) launched a battle cry: “The rule of law is not negotiated!”, denouncing that the measure tramples on the principles of legality and legal certainty.
The battle for land: social justice or abuse of power?
The Morenoist president, wrapped in the flag of the Fourth Transformation, justified his threat as an act of redemption for the police officers. But Coparmex counterattacked: “Expropriation is not a whim, but a rigorous process,” demanding dialogue before decrees. Tension escalated when Armenta accused developers of buying land “in cents” to sell it in dollars, while the opposition shouted “Blackmail!” at what they consider a legalized theft.
In this duel of titans, the business leadership extended an olive branch, but with a warning: “We will collaborate, but with respect for private property”. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking… Will the magnates give in or will Armenta unleash an expropriation that will mark his legacy?
