The controversy that the comedian could not erase
Adrián Marcelo was a trend again. But this time not because of a joke that worked, but because of one that exploded in his hands. On Sunday, the comedian asked his followers on X if he should worry about ‘El Mencho’.
He made reference to the sale of substances in clubs and the World Cup. The mixture was flammable. For some, it was their usual, acidic, borderline humor. For others, a tasteless mockery of the capo’s death.
Hours later, the message disappeared. Too late. The conversation had already escaped the control of the ‘delete’ button.
When the joke becomes a social diagnosis
Instead of folding, Marcelo doubled the bet. He published another text where he launched an uncomfortable thesis: “living in Mexico is supporting organized crime.” According to him, almost any daily activity has an indirect link with the illicit.
“Did you vote for a politician in Michoacán? Did you eat at a seafood restaurant in Mazatlán? Did you get into a taxi in Cancún? […] Congratulations, you also supported the CO”,
he wrote, listing examples ranging from the political to the recreational.
His final point was a bucket of cold water: he assured that the country will continue to be a ‘narco country’, with or without our individual participation. A pessimistic diagnosis wrapped in the cellophane of a network thread.
What started as a joke about the current situation ended as a social mirror. And as often happens with the best (and worst) jokes, it hurts more when you laugh, recognizing yourself in it.
