The photo that seeks to calm the storm
Ignacio Mier, Morena’s coordinator in the Senate, has just uploaded an image that is worth a thousand words. Or perhaps, a thousand empty statements. He appears smiling alongside the coordinators of the PT and the Green Party. The message is clear: “we will continue united and making history”. A direct wink to the cameras in the middle of the debate on Plan B of the electoral reform.
But here’s the detail that doesn’t appear in the photo. When asked if he already has the PT votes secured, Mier pretended not to understand. His response was an evasive “see you tomorrow”. A silence that screams louder than any pose for the gallery.
The theater behind the smile
The publication comes at a time of maximum tension. PT senators have been complaining loudly. They do not like bringing forward the revocation of the mandate to 2027. Nor does they like that the Executive can fully get involved in the campaigns.
In the image are all the main actors: Alberto Anaya and Geovanna Bañuelos for the PT; Arturo Escobar and Manuel Velasco for Green. It is a perfect casting to project cohesion. But like any good political drama, the interesting stuff happens behind the scenes.
“See you tomorrow,” Mier said when asked about the votes.
That phrase says it all. It’s the political equivalent of “call me later”. It translates pure uncertainty. Because if I really had the numbers secured, I would be shouting it from the rooftops.
The truth is that this alliance is walking on thin ice. Every internal disagreement is not just a problem of egos; It is a real risk for electoral reform. And without that unity, the ruling bloc may find itself facing a wall when the real political challenges arrive.
Mier plays stage manager, trying to align his wayward actors. But for now, the end of this work remains unwritten.
