The replacement in the Morenoist leadership
The resignation of Adán Augusto López Hernández as coordinator of the Morena bench in the Senate did not leave a void for long. In a swift move, the party’s senators elected Ignacio Mier Velazco to take the reins.
Now, Mier will not only lead the majority bench, but will also preside over the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo). A double position that places him in the center of the legislative board.
Who is the new boss?
Originally from Puebla and 63 years old, Mier Velazco is a politician with experience. His resume is a journey through acronyms: he started in the PRI, where he was a local and federal deputy, before jumping to Morena in 2017.
“His experience includes integration into Constitutional Points and Foreign Relations commissions”
Trained in Business Administration, his term as senator extends until 2030. He does not arrive as a stranger to the parliamentary game.
The message behind the appointment is clear: continuity. Morena seeks stability heading into the 2027 electoral cycle and is betting on a figure who has known the halls of Congress for years.
The question now is whether his leadership will maintain the legislative pace or if this change is just a cosmetic adjustment. Time, and the votes, will tell.
