What a way to debut!
Franjo von Allmen is living a dream. The Swiss skier not only won the first solo Milan-Cortina gold on Saturday. This Monday, together with Tanguy Nef, he added another in the Olympic debut of the combined team downhill.
The thing was not easy. After Von Allmen’s race, the Switzerland-2 team was fourth. They needed a comeback.
“Nef recovered from a 0.42 second deficit in a grooved slalom on the Stelvio”,
to close with a combined time of 2:44.04. Pure electricity! The silver was a tie between Switzerland-1 and Austria-1.
Air kisses and revenge accomplished
On the ice rink, the Netherlands celebrated its first gold. Skater Jutta Leerdam won the women’s 1000m.
When he won, he went to the stands to blow kisses. The recipient? Her fiancé, the boxer Jake Paul, who did not miss the moment. Her compatriot Femke Kok completed the Dutch 1-2.
And in the mountains, a movie that we already saw was repeated. Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud retained her Olympic freeski slopestyle title.
“Gremaud won the final with 86.96 points”,
denying the gold for the second consecutive time to the star Eileen Gu, who was just 0.38 points away. The tightest rivalry is still alive.
