Elements of the Secretary of the Navy, acting as the Coast Guard, seized nearly three tons of drugs and detained four people off the coast of Oaxaca. The operation also resulted in the seizure of two small boats and fuel allegedly intended for illicit activities.
Air patrol detected suspicious vessels
It all started when naval personnel were carrying out a maritime patrol flight. They detected two suspicious boats. An Ocean Patrol headed to the point, supported by an embarked helicopter. Thus they intercepted the boats to inspect them.
During the search, the sailors located 86 packages with approximately 2,990 kilograms of cocaine. They also seized 20 drums—each with about 50 liters—of supposedly prepared gasoline, plus eight empty containers.
Four detainees and everything at the disposal of the FGR
The four detainees, the drugs, the boats and the seized fuel were at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The agency will integrate the investigation folders and define the legal situation of those involved.
