Capture and background
The municipal president of Cuautla, Morelos, Jesús Corona Damián, was captured in compliance with an arrest warrant for his alleged links with organized crime, reported the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch.
On social networks, he detailed that this capture adds to the actions of Operation Enjambre in Morelos, which includes more than 85 detained officials and former officials, including seven acting municipal presidents.
The arrest occurred in the Costa Azul neighborhood, in Acapulco, Guerrero, after following up on him since his escape days ago.
Corona Damián ruled Cuautla in two periods. In 2018, three months after winning the elections as a PAN candidate, his brother Samuel was arrested in flagrante delicto for illegal deprivation of liberty.
In April 2025, during his second term, he appointed Francisco Delgadillo Cadena as head of the municipal police, despite the fact that the head of the Morelos Police warned that he did not have control and trust examinations. Days later, he was discharged and the SSPC proposed a retired captain.
The case gained notoriety after a video was spread online where Corona appears in a meeting with Júpiter Araujo, an alleged member of a criminal organization. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the meeting occurred days after the 2024 elections, when he was still elected mayor.
