The school calendar debunks the rumor of the ‘megabridge’
The drama unfolded on social media. The idea of a ‘mega-bridge’ of up to six days without classes at the end of April and beginning of May circulated strongly. Parents and students began to make plans, imagining an unexpected mini-vacation.
But here comes the blow of reality, direct from the Ministry of Public Education (SEP). The official truth is much simpler and less festive.
The only official days off
The SEP has established only three official rest dates for May of the 2025-2026 cycle:
- Thursday, May 1: Labor Day (national mandatory rest).
- Monday, May 5: Commemoration of the Battle of Puebla.
- Thursday, May 15: Teacher’s Day.
There is the kit in question. The famous ‘bridge’ deflates. On Monday, May 4 there are classes. On Wednesday, April 30, which is Children’s Day, there are also classes.
“Absence without justification can lead to recorded absences for basic level students,” warn educational authorities.
The perception of extended rest was born because some families could choose not to send their children on Children’s Day, creating a domino effect at home. But officially, school is open.
So, although the theater of social networks put together an epic play on a very long bridge, the official SEP script has fewer free days. Plan accordingly.
