The school calendar already has the next free days marked
After returning to school, the million-dollar question for parents and students is clear: when is the next breath? The SEP calendar for the 2025-2026 cycle already has the answers, and May comes with good news.
Although April is left without any more breaks, the next month includes several days without classes. Perfect for planning an outing or simply disconnecting.
The first big weekend of the school year
The next official break for basic education comes Friday, May 1, for Labor Day. According to the calendar, there will be no activities that day.
The date is juicy this cycle. When it falls on Friday, a long weekend of up to four days is put together: from May 1 to 4, with a return to the classrooms on Monday.
Friday, May 1: suspension of classes
Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd: normal weekend
Monday 4: back to school
And on May 5?
Here comes the first official but. Tuesday, May 5, due to the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, is not a mandatory day off in the national school calendar.
However, the institutional back door is open: some schools could suspend or move the break due to internal decisions. The recommendation is to be aware of the notices from each campus.
Another respite in the middle of the month
May is not left alone on a bridge. Friday, May 15 will also be a day off for Teacher’s Day. An official recognition of teaching work that means another break for students.
What the labor law says (just in case)
May 1 is not just a school holiday. According to the Federal Labor Law, it is a mandatory day of rest for those who work.
This means closures in public institutions, schools and banks. For those who have to work that day, the law is clear: triple payment is required.
- Normal daily salary.
- Extra payment for working on a holiday.
- Another additional payment for being an official holiday.
So you know. May begins with a long weekend and has another free day in store. Just remember to confirm May 5 at your school.
