A bigger goal for everyone
The passion for running in London is breaking new ground. The organizers of the legendary marathon are seriously studying turning the event into a two full day party starting in 2027.
The idea is clear: give many more people the opportunity to cross that iconic finish line. The demand is overwhelming. For this April’s race, more than 1.1 million people tried to enter the public lottery. That’s 36% more than last year!
The numbers speak for themselves. In 2025, the event brought together almost 57,000 runners and generated an impressive £87 million for the city. But the waiting line is huge.
“We are considering the intention for the London Marathon to be held over two days,” the organizers confirmed, although they clarify that there is no definitive green light yet.
The proposal, first reported by The Guardian, would be a historic change. Imagine: the elite men’s and women’s races could have their own space during the weekend, with a total that could approach 100,000 participants.
The mayor’s office has already said that they will work with the organizers to see if making it a reality next year is possible. It’s not just a logistical change; is to open the doors of mass sport.
As someone who experienced a career-ending injury, seeing these opportunities expand energizes me. This goes beyond the record; It’s about more people being able to live that transformative experience that only a challenge like this gives you.
A two-day marathon? It sounds like a sprint towards the future.
