The Municipal Government of Coatepec officially presented the Coffee Half Marathon, an unprecedented sporting event that was integrated into the agenda of activities prior to the National Coffee Fair, with the aim of positioning the municipality as a benchmark for sport, tradition and social coexistence.
The presentation was led by Mayor Jorge Ignacio Luna Hernández, accompanied by the head of the Coatepecano Sports Institute, Juan Ignacio Contreras Sánchez, and the organizer of the event, Héctor Peredo, who announced the details of the competition, as well as the official t-shirt and medal of this first edition.
During his message, the municipal president highlighted that the Coffee Half Marathon goes beyond an athletic competition, consolidating itself as a platform to strengthen the coffee identity of Coatepec, promote health, encourage family coexistence and contribute to the reconstruction of the social fabric.
He noted that this race is part of a comprehensive strategy to promote sports, with an open-door policy to collaborate with organizers of sports activities of various disciplines and distances, from recreational events to high-performance competitions.
Likewise, he stressed that the half marathon will project Coatepec at the state and national level, by contemplating the participation of local, regional runners and other entities in the country, which will generate a positive impact on tourism, the local economy and associated services.
For his part, the organizer Héctor Peredo recognized the City Council’s willingness to work in a coordinated manner with the private initiative, which made it possible to carry out a project focused on recovering and strengthening the municipality’s coffee-growing identity through sports.
He reported that the race will take place on March 29, with distances of 5 and 21 kilometers, and that at the time of the announcement, registered athletes from six states of the Republic and more than 20 municipalities of Veracruz were already registered. He added that the route was designed to harmonize the sporting activity with the daily life of the municipality, starting early to minimize road impacts and guarantee the safety of participants and citizens.
The event includes an attractive prize pool, as well as special recognition for runners from Coatepec, with the purpose of promoting local talent. A high-level commemorative kit and comprehensive logistics were also announced that will include hydration, medical services, free photographic coverage and a scenic route that will highlight the natural, urban and architectural wealth of the Magic Town.
The Municipal Government reiterated its support for this and future sporting events, considering that sport is a key tool for social well-being, community integration and the positive projection of Coatepec.
With the presentation of the Coffee Half Marathon, the City Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting activities that strengthen identity, boost the economy and consolidate Coatepec as a destination that combines tradition, nature and active life.
