The curtain falls on the negotiation table
Talks between the federal government and transport and farmer organizations broke down this Friday. There was no agreement in the meeting with the Government, which leaves the way clear for more protests and blockades.
The tension rises like the temperature in an overheated engine. The representatives of the protesters left the table after the official request to lift the road closures.
Their demands for security, better roads and support for the countryside have not been met —the movement’s leaders argued.
The warning is on the table
In the face of failure, protesters clearly warned: they will continue and could even intensify protests in the coming months. They ask for fair prices, fuel subsidies and guarantees against violence on the roads.
The mobilizations already affect roads in a dozen states, from Tlaxcala to Sinaloa. Leaders insist this can escalate if there are no concrete answers.
Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a support program for corn producers. But it’s like putting a Band-Aid on a wound that needs stitches. The organizations maintain their firm position: they will continue until a comprehensive agreement is reached.
The political script now has a new act of conflict. And this time, without a date to resume the dialogue.
