A black hole of 151 million in Tequila
The Superior Audit of the Federation has just put its finger on a sore that hurts: the Jalisco municipality of Tequila has no idea—or does not want to say—on what more than 151 million pesos of federal resources were spent.
We are talking about public money that simply… disappeared on paper. The ASF was clear: the municipality did not provide records, receipts, or any justification. Nothing.
“The municipality of Tequila, Jalisco did not provide the accounting and budget records or the supporting and supporting documentation… so the destination of the expense is unknown.”
And there is the specific figure that hurts: 151,023,008.48 pesos. Amount to clarify. Or rather, I ride lost in the fog of opacity.
The backdrop is a tragedy foretold
This is not a surprise to those who have followed this case. EL UNIVERSAL had already revealed that the management of the then municipal president, Diego Rivera Navarro, stood out for its absolute lack of transparency.
During his mandate, which began in October 2024, virtually no public documents were uploaded to the National Transparency Platform. No contracts, audits, asset declarations. A deafening administrative silence.
And the personal context aggravates the situation: Diego Rivera is detained today, accused of alleged acts of extortion and links to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.
Coincidence? In politics, as in theater, the acts of the second act are usually explained in the first. Here we have opaque management from day one and a former mayor behind bars. The dots connect themselves.
Beyond the political scandal—Rivera is a Morenista—this speaks of a systemic problem: public money is not loot. They are resources for streets, schools, drinking water. Each unjustified peso is a project that never reached the people.
The ASF has done its job: uncovering the black box. Now it is up to the authorities to act. Because 151 million do not evaporate. They just disappear when no one is looking.
