The pop diva and her charity tour: who needs Grammy when you have smiles?
Because nothing says “I’m a global superstar” like parking your private jet to hand out free hugs at a children’s hospital. Taylor Swift, that woman who probably has a clone to fulfill her schedule, appeared this weekend at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood as if she were a character from Mary Poppins, but with more glitter and less umbrella.
The show of compassion (with merchandising included)
According to witnesses (read: the medical team that forgot how to act professionally in the face of so much fame), the 35-year-old singer walked around the rooms distributing massive doses of sympathy, selfies and, let’s assume, the occasional bootleg CD of her latest album. “I’m Taylor, nice to meet you,” the artist said as she entered a room, causing little Zoe to question her entire reality: “Wow! I just hugged Taylor Swift.” Understandable, Zoe. We would faint too.
The hospital networks, clearly managed by the most effusive public relations department in the world, posted: “You transformed the hospital hallways into a place of joy, comfort and connection”. What they don’t mention is how many nurses had to be treated for hyperventilation attacks after the visit.
Among the featured activities: talks about manicure (because nothing cures like shiny nail polish), modeling sessions for cell phone cameras and, our favorite, the classic surprised face that we all make when a child shows us his dinosaur collection. Authentic or part of the celebrity repertoire? The world may never know.
From the NHL to the UCI: the compassion tour
The most ironic thing: just a few days before, Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce (that American football player who learned to make headlines without needing touchdowns) were seen enjoying a hockey game. Because what better transition than going from the VIP stands to the pediatric rooms, right? Priorities.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the world, a record executive sobs as his biggest investment spends valuable touring hours on… giving the gift of happiness. The horror.
The result? Excited patients, medical staff turned fans and a lesson for us all: sometimes, even billionaire divas remember that there are things more important than the charts. Although, let’s be honest, this will earn you more covers than any single.
