Guillermo Ochoa, one of the most emblematic goalkeepers in Mexican soccer, published a message on Instagram that ignited reactions among followers and colleagues. The publication exceeded 300 thousand likes and accumulated more than two thousand comments in a few hours.
“The lights go out. The people leave. The grass remains the same. But there are nights that stay forever. Thank you for walking this path with me,” wrote the former captain of America.
The text aroused signs of affection from national football figures. Santiago Giménez, AC Milan forward, commented: “You stay forever.” Luis Chávez, midfielder, responded: “Thank you captain, maximum respect.” Andrés Guardado, another legend, also joined in: “You are very great brother. Thank you for everything.”
Speculation about his future is not new. Prior to the World Cup, FIFA released an interview in which Ochoa hinted that the tournament could be his farewell to professional soccer. With this new message, the clues about his retirement become clearer.
Ochoa, trained in the basic forces of America, has been a key member of the Mexican National Team in five World Cups. Although he has not officially confirmed anything, the tone of his post and the responses of his colleagues suggest that the end of an era is approaching.
