Kenzo, the escaped tiger, died from a gunshot to the head

An autopsy reveals that Kenzo died from bronchoaspiration after a projectile impact to the head.

Kenzo, the Bengal tiger that escaped from the Animal Experience center on June 27, died on July 2 during his capture in Tepetlaoxtoc. The UNAM autopsy determined the cause: aspiration of blood after a projectile impact to the head.

Necropsy details

The study, delivered to Profepa, indicates that the wound “entered through the region of the right upper eyelid and continued its journey through the soft palate.” Kenzo weighed 116.2 kg and was 236 cm long.

“Likewise, it describes other wounds that the specimen had, some compatible with firearm projectiles; among them, one corresponding to the marking of the specimen (microchip) and, in addition, an 11 cm longitudinal lacerating wound in the tail,” details the PROPAEM statement.

The preliminary report from the UNAM Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics still awaits a final diagnosis with histopathological examination for greater precision.

Causes of death

Kenzo died during the capture operation after trying to attack one of the rescuers. The projectile impact was necessary to safeguard the integrity of that person. Authorities continue the investigation into the escape and the conditions at the center.

Mexico ensures historic increase in sugar exports to the US

Mexican sugar exports will rise 512%; agreements generate spills of 4,760 million pesos.

The dialogue between the governments of Mexico and the United States yielded concrete results for the national field. President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed negotiating tables that allowed the Mexican sugar industry to regularize the access to the US market.

Figures that mark a watershed

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects that the neighboring country will need to import up to 1 million 152 thousand tons of Mexican sugar for the 2026-2027 cycle. This represents an increase of 512% compared to estimates from the previous period.

In economic terms, the adjustment of border quotas will generate a direct potential benefit of 4,760 million pesos for sugarcane producers in various regions of the country.

Agreement that has been in the works since November

The binational negotiations were formalized last year, during the meeting between the US Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, and the Mexican president in Mexico City.

Agricultural authorities indicated that this achievement confirms the effectiveness of institutional dialogue to consolidate agreements that stabilize supplies and provide economic certainty to producers on both sides of the border.
