Justice arrives… again, but with style
In a spectacle worthy of a low-budget movie, federal and state forces decided to give a touch of real action to life in Puebla by arresting six alleged members of the gang known as “Operativa Barredora”. Yes, the same group that sounds like a street cleaning service, but is actually dedicated to everything except sweeping… unless it’s with bullets.
The cast of villains
Among the detainees stand out characters with such creative aliases as “El Yiyo” (20 years old, Jalisco), “El Maken” (21 years old), “El Pilas” (35 years old, Guatemalan) and “El Rolas” (35 years old, Jalisco). The latter, a veteran in the world of crime, had already had a cameo in prison in 2023 for crimes against health and carrying weapons. Who said that social reintegration doesn’t work?
The operations, which included the Navy, the SSP and the Puebla Prosecutor’s Office, ended with the classic loot: suspicious vehicles, weapons that were not for playing paintball and drugs that, obviously, were “for personal use.” In addition, they found tactical vests with the legends “Operativa Barredora” and “CJNG”, because nothing says criminal professionalism like having your logo on your uniform.
And what else does this band do?
Ah, well, a little bit of everything: drug trafficking, extortion, human trafficking, maritime piracy (yes, like those in Somalia, but with fewer ships and more huachicol), and even beheadings. Come on, if there were a “Most Versatile Crime Award”, these guys would be guaranteed a nomination.
The most ironic thing is that, according to rumors, this group emerged from police factions. Surprised? Of course not. Because what better way to fight crime than joining it. In addition, it is rumored that they had alliances with the CJNG, although it seems that that relationship ended worse than a soap opera marriage.
And now what?
The government of Puebla, led by Alejandro Armenta, assures that this is part of its “frontal fight against crime”. But, to be honest, this seems more like an episode in an endless series where the bad guys always come back. Are six arrests really going to change anything? Or, as they would say on networks: “Puebla for sure… see you next week.”.
In the meantime, citizens can continue enjoying the show, because in this country justice sometimes seems more like a reality show than a real solution.
