El Cholo does not give up, he finds peace in the fight
Look, when a team gives everything and still gets left out, it hurts. But Diego Simeone, that guy who exudes determination and heart, showed us a lesson in resilience that goes beyond the scoreboard.
After losing 1-0 to Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals, Atlético de Madrid said goodbye to the European dream. But Cholo did not leave with a frown. On the contrary, he raised his fists, applauded the fans who were chanting his name, and made it clear that pride outweighs defeat.
“I feel tranquility, I feel peace, I feel that the team gave absolutely everything it has,” declared Simeone, without a trace of anguish.
And this team, which reached the semi-finals for the first time in a decade—since that lost final against Real Madrid in 2016—showed that competing against giants with their own weapons is no small feat. They eliminated Barcelona in the quarterfinals, they were the only Spaniard in this instance, and they stood up to the powerful Arsenal.
Koke is also pronounced: pride and pain
Captain Koke Resurrección, with a broken but firm voice, summed it up perfectly:
“We are very hurt… but proud of the team and my people. We have given everything, we have had opportunities to score goals and today they did not want to score.”
Yes, football is forceful. And this time, those from London were more accurate. But Atlético showed that strength is not negotiable. The season closes without trophies – the league has them fourth, 25 points behind Barça – but the fighting spirit remains intact.
The lesson behind the result
As a former runner, I tell you: sometimes you don’t win the race, but you learn more in defeat than in victory. Simeone knows it. Koke knows it. And the fans, the ones that never stop encouraging, too.
The path continues. Next season, Atlético will roar again.
