A violent act interrupts family celebration in CDMX
Agents from the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJ-CDMX) are searching for four individuals who violently broke into a neighborhood of the Penitenciaria colony, located in the Venustiano Carranza mayor’s office. The subjects shot at least ten times against the attendees of a baby shower, an event that brought together family and friends in a festive atmosphere. This incident, which occurred last Saturday, left a tragic outcome: two people injured and one fatality.
Details of the attack and profile of the victim
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased person was identified as Diego, who allegedly had ties to the criminal group known as La Unión Tepito. It should be noted that the individual had regained his freedom just six months before the attack, after serving a prison sentence. The attackers entered the neighborhood on foot, located at 37 Miguel Domínguez Street, and fired the shots indiscriminately before fleeing on scooters, a recurring modus operandi in areas with a high incidence of crime.
The neighborhood patio, where the celebration took place, became the main scene of the tragedy. Diego lost his life instantly, while the two injured were taken to nearby medical centers to receive urgent care. The authorities confirmed that the property had already been the subject of a previous search by the Secretary of Citizen Security, during which illicit substances were seized, suggesting a possible connection with drug trafficking activities in the area.
Institutional response and advances in research
The area was immediately cordoned off by elements of the FGJ-CDMX, who initiated the investigation protocols to clarify the facts. Among the priority actions is the exhaustive review of the surveillance cameras installed in the surrounding area, with the aim of identifying those responsible and reconstructing their escape route. Witnesses mentioned that the attackers took refuge in another nearby neighborhood, a fact that the authorities are verifying through coordinated operations.
This episode reflects a worrying pattern in the Mexican capital, where violence linked to organized crime continues to affect entire communities, even in everyday contexts such as family gatherings. The Penitentiary Colony, historically associated with security challenges, once again faces the effects of this structural problem.
