France defeats Sweden and remains firm in the 2026 World Cup

France beats Sweden 3-0 with a double from Mbappé and advances to the round of 16.

French dominance in the countryside

The French team confirmed its status as favorites in the 2026 World Cup by beating Sweden with authority. Kylian Mbappé and Michael Olise were the stars of the match, played in the group stage.

The scoring opened at the end of the first half. Mbappé took advantage of an individual play to beat the Swedish goalkeeper. In the 53rd minute, Olise extended the lead after a well-crafted collective action.

The third goal came after an assist from Olise to Mbappé, who defined with precision. France also hit the post three times and had a goal disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

With this double, Mbappé has six goals in the current tournament. In his World Cup career he has scored 18 goals, just one behind the Argentine Lionel Messi.

Ronald Koeman does not decide his immediate future after elimination

Koeman will analyze his continuity after losing to Morocco in the 2026 World Cup.

No decision about his future

Ronald Koeman will not define his continuity as Netherlands coach immediately. After the elimination in the 2026 World Cup against Morocco, the coach opted for caution and assured that he would first analyze what happened before making a decision.

Asked about a possible resignation, Koeman acknowledged that it is his responsibility to be accountable for the disappointment of the defeat. However, he preferred not to rush and evaluate the process before communicating his future.

The main focus of criticism was the change in tactical system. Koeman lined up a five-player defense against Morocco, a decision that raised doubts among fans. The coach rejected that it had been due to fear of the rival and explained that he was looking for greater defensive solidity.

He explained that the modification arose from analysis in training and dialogue with the players. He assured that he would make the same decisions again if he had the opportunity.

Koeman also highlighted the growth of African football in recent years, both tactically and mentally. He pointed out that Morocco is a clear example of this evolution, with talent and young promises in the best clubs in Europe. It is no coincidence, he said, that they are above the Netherlands in the world rankings.

Ecuador denounces Mexico to FIFA for harassment of its team

Ecuador presented a formal complaint to FIFA for acts by Mexican fans in the run-up to the round of 16 match.

Official complaint from Ecuador for incidents in the run-up to the match against Mexico

The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) filed a formal complaint with the organization of the 2026 World Cup. The reason: the acts that occurred during the early hours of the morning at the South American team’s concentration hotel in Santa Fe, Mexico City.

Dozens of Mexican fans gathered in front of the building. They used horns, motorcycles, klaxons, loudspeakers and pyrotechnics. The objective: to alter the rest of the team led by Sebastián Beccacece, hours before the direct elimination duel.

Images of the episode circulated on social networks. What was previously seen as a show of local support is now interpreted as a strategy to affect the rival’s preparation.

Complicated logistics and growing unrest

The Ecuadorian annoyance was not limited to noise. The team also faced problems reaching the capital. The flight from Columbus suffered a considerable delay, altering the planning made to mitigate the effect of altitude.

After landing at Felipe Ángeles International Airport, the team traveled nearly 65 kilometers to Santa Fe. The trip was lengthened due to heavy traffic and rain on Monday night.

The FEF statement

Hours later, the FEF released a statement. He demanded action to prevent these events from being repeated during the World Cup.

“This procedure is far from the principles of fair play, equity and unity that a World Cup should represent. We respectfully call on the competent authorities to safeguard the integrity of our players, coaching staff and fans. Ecuador will always respond to these unsportsmanlike actions on the field.”

The organization trusted that respect and healthy competition will prevail in the football festival between two sister countries.
