Sheinbaum rejects FBI interference in Zambada’s capture

Official report rules out unilateral participation of the United States in the arrest of 'El Mayo'.

President Claudia Sheinbaum presented an official report on the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. The measure responds to journalistic versions that link the FBI with the operation.

The contradictions with the United States

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, pointed out contradictions between statements by former ambassador Ken Salazar and a report from July 2026. That text relates the US agency to the aircraft that transported Zambada. Rodríguez warned that a unilateral intervention would violate the Constitution and the National Security Law.

Specialists Abraham Serrano and Raúl Guillermo Benítez explained that the FBI operates legally in Mexico through offices in the embassy and consulates. They regularly collaborate with the FGR and the SSPC.

However, they noted that powers often deploy low-profile agents to protect their interests. This could explain the recent operation. They recalled antecedents such as the extraction of the doctor Álvarez Machain in the Camarena case and the death of CIA agents in Chihuahua.

Possible impact on the bilateral relationship

Despite diplomatic complaints about the possible violation of national sovereignty, both experts agreed that the episode is unlikely to significantly deteriorate the relationship with the United States. They indicated that the differences will be resolved through diplomatic channels. However, they warned that without greater bilateral coordination, Washington could maintain unilateral actions under the argument of protecting its national security.

Women’s Secretariat maintains support for wife of former director of Pemex

Government offers comprehensive care to wife of former Pemex director on trial for violence.

Permanent support from the Women’s Secretariat

The Women’s Secretariat reported that it will continue to provide comprehensive care, advice and psychosocial support services to María Felicia Jiménez, wife of the former director of Petróleos Mexicanos, Víctor Rodríguez Padilla. The support will be maintained if she requests it, within the judicial process she faces for alleged family violence.

In a statement, the agency clarified that any support will be granted with full respect for the will, autonomy and dignity of Dr. Jiménez. She also reiterated her commitment to assisting women who experience situations of violence through specialized protection mechanisms.

Decision not to attend hearing

The statement occurred after María Felicia Jiménez reported that she would not attend the hearing scheduled to ratify the pardon granted to her husband. He argued that he faces a strong media siege and seeks to protect his privacy and that of his children, especially that of his minor son.

The authorities keep open the possibility for the victim to access services when they consider it necessary. The case has generated public attention due to the power links of those involved, although the Secretariat assures that its actions are based on technical and human rights criteria.

US increases Mexican sugar quota to 550 thousand tons

Mexican sugar quota rises from 180 thousand to 550 thousand tons after bilateral agreement.

New export quota

The United States increased the export quota of Mexican sugar from 180 thousand to 550 thousand tons for the next cycle. The agreement, reached after negotiations between authorities from both countries and industry representatives, could be expanded to up to one million tons, although part of the additional volume is still awaiting authorization.

Juan Cortina Gallardo, vice president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and former president of the National Chamber of Sugar and Alcohol Industries (CNIAA), explained that what has been confirmed is just over 550 thousand tons. The rest of the quota will depend on a publication scheduled for February of next year.

Negotiation process

The businessman pointed out that the increase was the result of more than six months of negotiations with Mexican officials, including Julio Berdegué Sacristán, coordinator of international agri-food affairs. He warned that it will be necessary to observe the behavior of sugar consumption, production and imports in the United States during the coming months.

The previous reduction in the quota had affected the Mexican sugar sector after the United States modified the formula for calculating import quotas in 2022. To avoid additional restrictions, Mexico raised tariffs on sugar imports, with rates of up to 156% for cane sugar and 210.44% for refined liquid sweetener.
