Defense of public schools and the call to play
As part of the 12th day of the strike of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), President Claudia Sheinbaum recognized the national teachers for their work. The message was given during the delivery of the Rita Cetina Scholarship in Villa de Álvarez, Colima.
Sheinbaum called on boys and girls to reduce the time they spend on mobile devices and social networks. He questioned how many hours a day they look at their phone and recalled popular games like spring, rope and marbles.
“It’s good to look at the phone, but you don’t have to be on the phone all day, because you have to play, you have to jump, you have to go out,” he expressed.
The president defended public education over private ones: “Have you heard that private schools are better? Well, it’s not true, public schools are the best and that is thanks to the teachers.” At the event, Sheinbaum also performed the viral “six-seven” TikTok challenge.
Coverage of the scholarship in Colima
Julio César León Trujillo, national coordinator of Scholarships for Wellbeing, reported that 67,966 students are served in the state with an investment of more than 650 million pesos. He added that this year 57,519 more students will enter, almost doubling the current coverage.
Mario Delgado, head of the SEP, described the scholarship as a “gift” from the president for families to buy supplies and uniforms when they return to school. Governor Indira Vizcaíno highlighted that these programs prevent school dropouts.
