We all play a role. That is the central idea that Nick Offerman highlights in the series Margo has money problems, where he plays Jinx, a former professional wrestler.
For the 56-year-old actor, the production shows characters who are usually judged by society to remember that each person adapts their own version depending on the circumstances.
“We all act. When you arrive for an interview, when you are sad but have to go to work or when you go out for coffee. We all play different roles every day.”
Offerman adds that, although a fighter or a content creator on platforms like OnlyFans may seem distant, anyone can identify with them.
Empathy before judgment
The actor also addresses how women who resort to sex work to support their families are often judged. The series proposes to look beyond appearances.
“Maybe I don’t take off my shirt on OnlyFans to feed my child, but we are all, in some way, taking off our shirt for someone. Before judging so quickly, especially women, we should look in the mirror.”
Thaddea Graham, who plays Susie, Margo’s best friend, brings another layer. Her character never questions the protagonist’s decisions and becomes her constant support during motherhood.
“The series talks a lot about the resilience of women. It also teaches you to accept the help that other people want to give you and not to judge the decisions that someone makes to get ahead. I wish we all had a friend like Susie.”
The series, which features Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning, invites us to treat others with more empathy.
