President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a 9% salary increase for the country’s teachers. The recognition, he said, is a permanent thank you to the national teaching profession.
The salary increase
From the Patio del Trabajo of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), the president highlighted that this financial effort is part of the fair distribution of public resources. During the commemoration, he emphasized that the transformation of the country and the formation of good citizens is due to the work of educators.
The head of the SEP, Mario Delgado Carrillo, explained that the 9% increase is made up of various benefits and recognitions to the base salary. According to Delgado, this allows the recovery trend to be maintained in real terms in the face of historical lags in the sector. He highlighted the fundamental role of teachers in consolidating the New Mexican School (NEM) model in urban and rural communities.
SNTE reactions
Alfonso Cepeda Salas, general secretary of the SNTE, and Michoacan professor Marla Estela Mejía, thanked the Government of Mexico for the commitments fulfilled.
“The union leader endorsed the support of the teachers to continue strengthening the national educational system under a relationship of trust, labor justice and mutual honesty.”
During the event, Sheinbaum presented the “Maestro Manuel Altamirano” medal to 42 teachers who completed more than 40 years of uninterrupted service in the classrooms. The recognition highlights the trajectory of those who have dedicated their lives to public education.
