The ‘good reputation’ speech
Samuel García once again produced the successful script. In a meeting with property owners, the governor of Nuevo León assured that his administration gave the state something it already had at the national level: international prestige. According to him, we are now a “topic” when it comes to nearshoring.
“There is no doubt, no doubt that Nuevo León in Mexico has a very good reputation that we are hard-working people,” he declared.
Of course, because before 2021 no one in the world knew that things were manufactured here. The merit, according to his story, is these four years. Foreign promotion would have made the state the best place to invest.
“Something I am proud of is that in these four years we have made the effort to also have a good reputation internationally,” he added.
The final call
With a year and a half ahead, García called for us to work together. He addressed chambers, mayors, industries and deputies present. He asked them to close forts and resolve pending issues.
His final argument was two new “benefits”: technology and the World Cup. Because nothing attracts investment like a soccer game. The question that remains is simple: is fame built on tours or on solving the problems of those who already live here?
