The Chivas goalkeeper aims high for his first World Cup
Raúl Rangel is days away from playing his first World Cup. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is not intimidated by the challenge of defending the goal of the Mexican National Team.
At the Tricolor Media Day in Pasadena, California, ‘El Tala’ made his optimism clear. “I do believe and I hope to become champion with Mexico. It is something that we must begin to believe, to feel as Mexicans, to keep in mind that Mexico can reach these levels,” he stated.
Confident of being a starter despite the competition
Rangel knows that the fight for the position is intense, especially with the presence of the historic Guillermo Ochoa. However, he is expected to start on June 11 in the opening match against South Africa.
“I really do see myself playing. I can’t think of anything less than that because it would mean that I’m relaxing. Whatever has to happen, in the end it’s the coach’s decision,” declared the red-and-white goalkeeper.
Ochoa’s influence on his growth
Beyond the healthy rivalry, Rangel values learning with Ochoa. “I have learned a lot from him that serenity, that resilience in important moments. He told me to keep working, not to relax,” he concluded.
