The water does not forgive in Villa Comaltitlán
The storms that fell on the Chiapas coast were not just water. They were a direct blow to the infrastructure and the pockets of the farmers.
The bridge that connects the Zapote Mocho canton was seriously injured: one of its support cables burst. The structure is now a walking hazard. And that’s not all.
55 homes lost their tin roofs. The sheets flew as if they were made of paper. People were left homeless, literally.
The crops also cry
The residents reported losses in bananas, mangoes, coffee, corn and even timber trees. Falling trees blocked roads. Access to the area is a headache.
“The traffic cut is recorded in the road section from the Manuel Ávila Camacho ejido to La Flor Lote Uno, and in the section from the municipal seat to the Manuel Ávila Camacho ejido,” authorities reported.
And Civil Protection?
Municipal Civil Protection personnel are already touring the area. They do inspections. They check for damage. But in the meantime, people wait. As usual.
The question is: how long will it take to repair that bridge? Because without it, the community is isolated. And in Chiapas, that is not new.
