Pumas victory in Toluca
The Pumas achieved their first victory under Esteban Solari by beating Toluca 1-2 at the Nemesio Diez Stadium. The visiting team came back with goals from Víctor Arteaga and Sebastián Córdova, both former players of the scarlet team.
Toluca began dominating. Helinho sent a precise cross that Jorge Díaz Price converted into a goal in the 13th minute. Keylor Navas hesitated at the start, which allowed the Mexican striker to finish with his left leg.
In the second half, Solari adjusted his strategy. Víctor Arteaga traveled several meters without pressure and in the 56th minute tied it with a left footed shot. Seven minutes later, Rodrigo López sent a dangerous cross and Sebastián Córdova headed in to give the Pumas the lead.
Both scorers arrived as reinforcements for Apertura 2026 and scored their first goal with their new team. Coming from Toluca, they applied the well-known “Law of the Ex” to give the victory to the National University Club.
The victory represents a respite for Esteban Solari, who is just beginning his time leading the Pumas. Although the team still has aspects to improve, the result at the Toluca stadium gives them confidence for the remainder of the tournament.
