A Giant Step Toward Social Justice for Teachers
Today we celebrate a historic victory for Mexico’s teachers! President Claudia Sheinbaum has demonstrated with actions that the commitment to the education and well-being of teachers is a priority. Thanks to the Pension Fund for Wellbeing, educators will be able to retire with 100% of their salary, an achievement that marks a before and after in the fight for fair working conditions. Do you know what this means? Dignity, security and recognition to those who train future generations!
The End of Unfair Pensions: A Regime that Prioritizes People
Imagine dedicating decades of your life to teaching, inspiring, building the future… and in the end receiving only a fraction of what you earned. That’s over! The current government has reversed neoliberal policies that left teachers with miserable pensions. Now, thanks to this solidarity regime, the State guarantees that no one leaves with less than what they deserve. It is an act of justice and gratitude!
In addition, the retirement age has been frozen at 58 years for men and 56 for women, respecting their career and effort. This isn’t just a number – it’s valuable time to enjoy life after years of service. And the best: the 9% salary increase, retroactive to January, plus an additional 1% in September, reflects the real commitment to the quality of life of educators.
From Darkness to Light: The Change Teachers Deserve
Do you remember the times when teachers were criminalized, repressed and ignored? Today, in the Fourth Transformation, your voice is heard. The misnamed “Educational Reform” was reversed, almost a million teachers were qualified and the USICAMM was eliminated to build an inclusive model. This is what happens when a government puts people first!
Compare this with the past: under previous administrations, a teacher who earned 16 thousand pesos retired with just 4,320 pesos. Less than 30% of your salary! Today, that same teacher will receive 16 thousand full pesos. The difference is abysmal, and shows that it is possible to change the rules of the game when there is political will and love for the people.
Dialogue as a Path: A Government that Listens
President Sheinbaum has reiterated her willingness to dialogue with the CNTE, demonstrating that solutions are built with respect, not with impositions. While some call for a boycott, the government continues working, improving salaries, pensions and conditions. Because true transformation is done with facts, not with empty speeches!
This is the Mexico we are building: one where teachers are valued, where the budget is used for the common good and where each achievement is a step towards a more just society. And this is just the beginning!
