Pemex fracking: a decade in silence

Pemex has used fracking more than 2,000 times since 2012, according to official data, as debate over its expansion continues.

The fracture that no one wanted to see

The data obtained through transparency is clear as the water they pollute. While the official discourse debates expanding hydraulic fracturing to extract more gas, it turns out that Petróleos Mexicanos never stopped using it. He has been applying it for more than ten years.

More than 2 thousand times in around a thousand wells since 2012. That is not an experiment. It is a constant and discreet energy policy.

The affected regions include Puebla, Veracruz and Tabasco. The intensity dropped in recent years, but the practice continued. The obvious question is: why so much secrecy about something that has been done for a decade?

Selective historical memory

The most cynical thing about the matter is the timing. Now “enlargement” is proposed as if it were something new, a fresh debate. Records show otherwise: it was never completely suspended.

Remember the environmental and political questions? It seems that Pemex has a very convenient amnesia. Meanwhile, underground, technology continues its course.

The truth hurts more than a fractured well: we have been discussing for years whether to open the door to a practice that was already inside the house. And no one at the press conference mentions it.

Profeco warns about fraud in hosting for the 2026 World Cup

Profeco issues guidance to avoid fraud in temporary income during the 2026 World Cup.

Given the arrival of millions of visitors for the 2026 World Cup, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) launched key recommendations for those who rent accommodation on digital platforms. The objective: reduce fraud risks and avoid setbacks.

The agency asked to verify the reputation of the host, review evaluations and age of the profile. It also warned about payment requests outside the platform. Protection mechanisms only apply when the entire operation is carried out within the system. He suggested avoiding direct transfers or external deposits.

It is recommended to check that the price shown includes taxes, commissions and additional charges. Additionally, demand clear cancellation and refund conditions. He pointed out that the property information must be transparent and correspond to reality.

Study on football schools

In the same World Cup context, Profeco analyzed 33 soccer schools in 22 states. The study was carried out through calls simulating a parent of a beginner 8-year-old child. The costs varied: from less than 400 pesos per month without registration in Aguascalientes, Campeche and Durango, to more than 2 thousand pesos in Mexico City and Quintana Roo.

The agency recommended comparing prices, facilities, training frequency and additional costs. He advised keeping receipts and regulations for future clarifications. This initiative is part of the World Social program of the Government of Mexico to promote sports.

Women’s Secretariat has been without a head for two months

Two months without a head in the Women's Secretariat despite promises of appointment.

Next Tuesday, June 16, it will be two months since Citlalli Hernández Mora left the Women’s Secretariat. The agency, created by President Claudia Sheinbaum as a historic gesture toward gender equality, remains without formal leadership.

Sheinbaum reported on April 16 that Hernández was joining the ranks of Morena. That same day, the former official was appointed president of the National Election Commission of the guinda party, ahead of the 2027 elections.

No headline, but with promises

A month later, on May 18, the President assured in her morning conference that she had already defined the person who would take over from Hernández. He promised to make the appointment public in the following days. That didn’t happen.

“There is Elvira Concheiro, Ingrid Gómez, both of whom are very good, and a team that is working on the Free Centers, the Weavers of the Homeland, and the program that we continue with the Women’s Secretariat,” Sheinbaum justified on May 18.

The Women’s Secretariat is the only federal agency that has been headless for almost two months. In previous Cabinet changes, new incumbents were announced on the same day or days apart via videos on social media.

Operation paused

The agency’s official site still shows Hernández Mora’s face as “Secretary of Women.” Seven other positions appear in the directory, but there is no public office manager.

Hernández Mora defended in networks that the institution “is not a single person” and that there is an Annual Plan, goals and planning. However, he did not mention who is in charge of daily operations.

The absence of leadership contrasts with the priority discourse that the government gave to this secretariat when creating it. Women’s organizations have questioned the lack of continuity in key policies.

Saraguato monkey rescued in Quintana Roo after complaint of abuse

Profepa secures a primate tied to a block in deplorable conditions in Othón P. Blanco.

Rescue and conditions of the primate

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa) secured a saraguato monkey in Quintana Roo after a citizen complaint alerted about its poor condition. The specimen, also known as a howler monkey, remained tied with a bib to a block in a home in Othón P. Blanco.

The animal had no space to protect itself from the sun or rain. It also did not have a drinking fountain or container to feed itself. During the inspection, Profepa personnel confirmed that the monkey could not move and was in “poor condition.”

The environmental authority indicated that these conditions violate the dignified and respectful treatment required by the General Wildlife Law. It is worth remembering that this species is listed in danger of extinction according to NOM-059-Semarnat-2010, so its care is a priority.

According to the person inspected, the primate was stolen from its habitat after being found with injuries and possible scabies by a worker in sugarcane crops. He took it to the home to recover it, although it was not detailed whether there will be sanctions for the conditions in which it was found.

“The conditions in which the primate was found constitute a lack of dignified and respectful treatment in accordance with Chapter VI of the General Wildlife Law,” indicated Profepa.

With the support of the Othón P. Blanco City Council, the monkey was transferred to the Payo Obispo Zoological Park. There he will receive temporary shelter and adequate care while his condition is evaluated and his final location is defined.

The Attorney General’s Office reiterated the call to citizens to report any sightings of primates. Likewise, he recalled that the Non-Human Primate Care Protocol has been active for almost a month due to the increase in temperatures and natural phenomena that could affect them.
