Lula’s message to Ancelotti
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recorded a video for the coach of the Brazilian team, Carlo Ancelotti, just on the day of Brazil’s debut in the World Cup.
In the recording, broadcast on social networks, Lula asked the team to play “thinking of the Brazilian people” and stressed that in this competition “you don’t compete, you win.”
“What matters is determination. What matters is the cohesion of the team, the unity of the team, the harmony of the team. They have to be good, they have to be motivated and they have to play thinking about the Brazilian people, who need a victory. If you achieve it, Ancelotti, you will become our hero,” said the president.
Lula was emphatic when he added:
“You have the team, but in the World Cup you don’t compete, you win. We don’t have to go compete, we have to go win.”
The presidential endorsement comes at a key moment for Canarinha, which is seeking its sixth world title. Lula’s words reflect the high expectations that exist in the country about the team’s performance under the direction of the Italian coach.
