The carpet is ready, so are the bets
Not long left. In a few hours the Dolby Theater will be the center of the cinema universe. The stars are already getting ready for the most important red carpet of the year, while predictions about who will win the golden statuette fly everywhere.
This year things look historic. And it is not an exaggeration.
A record that speaks for itself
The film ‘Sinners’, with Michael B. Jordan at the helm, has just done something enormous: 16 nominations out of 23 possible categories. Yes, you read that right. It surpasses the record held by classics like ‘Titanic’ or ‘La La Land’. It’s a number that hurts your head.
“The highest figure in the history of these awards,” the records indicate.
Behind comes ‘One Battle After Another’ with 13, and for many it is the favorite to win the grand prize. The duel is served.
The Mexican touch (behind the scenes)
Here’s the cool thing for us: Mexico comes strong, but this time its power is in the magic that cannot be seen.
Guillermo del Toro leads with his ‘Frankenstein’, competing for Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. He is not nominated for direction, but his creature competes in a big way.
And then there are the unsung heroes:
- José Antonio García, veteran sound engineer, nominated for ‘One Battle After Another’.
- Cruz Martínez and Ivel Hernández, part of the technical teams of monsters like ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.
That is, our talent is building the universes that we will all see on screen. That is also celebrated.
So get ready. Tonight there is history, nerves and a lot of brilliance. I have the snacks ready and my best ironic judgment to survive the speeches.
