An award that celebrates his legacy
American actor George Clooney will be recognized with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival, which will take place in September.
The award crowns a history of eleven participations in the Lido. It all started in 1998 with the screening of Out of Sight and continued last year with Jay Kelly.
Alberto Barbera, director of the contest, praised Clooney’s versatility as an actor, director and producer. He highlighted his ability to move between commercial Hollywood cinema and projects with a strong social commitment.
His work behind the scenes includes films such as Good Night, and Good Luck and The Ides of March, both with a notable political and humanitarian charge. The actor, winner of two Oscars and four Golden Globes, expressed his honor for the distinction at his favorite festival.
In addition to his film career and his recent Tony-nominated debut on Broadway, Clooney maintains an active role as a human rights defender and UN Messenger of Peace.
