“There is no clue here”: Monreal denies interference in the INE
Ricardo Monreal, Morena’s coordinator in San Lázaro, came forward. With the election of three new INE councilors on the horizon, accusations of political manipulation began to fly. His response was forceful: neither his party nor any other party has a hand in this process.
“It is a committee that guarantees impartiality and will select the best profiles,” said the legislator at a press conference.
According to Monreal, everything is in the hands of the Technical Evaluation Committee, a body appointed by the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo). He insists that this group operates with complete independence, far from the interests of parliamentary groups. A script that, if true, would be a theatrical blow against general skepticism.
Casting figures
The deputy gave numbers: more than 500 people initially registered. Of them, 476 completed all the paperwork and will now be evaluated. The ultimate goal is to put together the famous ‘quintets’ – the short lists of candidates to be sent for final appointment. It’s a massive process, but the million-dollar question remains who actually runs the audition.
The opposition has thrown darts, suggesting hidden links between some members of the committee and Morena. Monreal swept away those accusations with a single movement. He said he fully trusted the professionalism of the committee and assured that no legislator has influence over its decisions.
His final message was one of confidence – or at least, the appearance of it. He insisted that everything will end with the election of suitable profiles thanks to a “transparent and merit-based” exercise. In the grand theater of Mexican politics, this is a crucial scene. We will see if the public buys the argument or if behind the curtain there is another completely different script.
