Gratitude unites Mónica Huarte with the playwright Gerardo Mancebo del Castillo Trejo, whom she fondly remembers 25 years after his departure. That bond led her to accept the lead role in La comedia de las acotaciones, a production that ends the season this weekend at Foro La Gruta.
The actress shares that Mancebo was her stage partner at the beginning of her career.
“We worked together on La capitana Gazpacho when I was starting out, it was my second play and I have great memories and affection for it and he wrote this play and there it was, it was never released, and since it is just 25 years since he left we decided to put it on with people who were also close to him.”
Thalia, the queen in ruins
Mónica Huarte plays Talía, a character she defines as “a delirious woman.” He lives in the Calánime Universe, an absurd and surreal cosmos created by the author. The actress explains:
“Her name is Talía, she is the queen in ruins, a terrible woman who has a destroyed kingdom, she lives to give orders and feel adored, with the idea that she is still a very powerful queen, but she no longer reigns at all, she lives on past glories and she is very funny because we also gave her an accent and a way of speaking like an old actor, it is very joyful to do it and she also has her jester who is in love with her.”
Theatrical passion intact
For Mónica Huarte, theater is her passion, beyond her series or film projects. He states:
“The theater is where I started my career and where I feel most free, that’s why I am in this production that makes the playwriting of Gerardo valid, whom we honor 25 years after his departure.”
The cast is completed by Guadalupe Damián, Patricia Yáñez, Alicia Martínez, Adriana Morales and Pedro Mira, under the direction of Alfonso Cárcamo. The work is a living tribute to an author who marked those who worked with him.
