Mexico watches BRICS summit while seeking trade alliances

Mexico watches the BRICS game from the sidelines while forging strategic alliances with Brazil and India.

The Mexican Foreign Minister sits at the BRICS table… but in spectator mode

Ah, the BRICS, that exclusive club of countries that sounds like the name of a hipster cryptocurrency, but is actually the acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. And guess what: Mexico is not invited to the VIP. But, like that friend who sneaks into the party just to eat snacks, Chancellor Juan Ramón de la Fuente will attend as an observer. Yes, that type who looks but doesn’t touch, like when you see your ex’s stories.

President Claudia Sheinbaum, in her “we are not part of it, but we like gossip” style, confirmed that Mexico is not a member of this economic conglomerate, but that they will still send their chancellor to take a look. “We go as observers,” he said, as if it were a geopolitical reality show. And of course, Juan Ramón de la Fuente will be our representative in the front row, taking notes and making an interested face while thinking about dinner.

Brazil and India: the real objective is in business (and pharmaceuticals)

But it’s not all about looking and not touching. Sheinbaum made it clear that his thing is not just to observe, but to collaborate. With Brazil, for example, he wants Brazilian companies to come to Mexico not to compete, but to do what millennials like so much: complement each other. That is, “you cook, I’ll take care of the house” but in a macroeconomic version. He even mentioned a meeting in August between secretaries from both countries to see how to do business without stepping on each other’s heels. Will it be the beginning of a TLC 2.0 but with more caipirinhas and tacos?

And then there is India, the pharmaceutical giant that has Mexico seeing it with the eyes of a needy entrepreneur. Sheinbaum talked about investments in medicines and critical materials, because who doesn’t want Indian pharmaceutical companies to set up their factories here? Overall, after the pandemic, we all know that medications are the new gold. Of course, with the condition that the production is local, because #HechoEnMéxico sounds better on the country’s CV.

And if that were not enough, the European Union is also on the radar. Sheinbaum hopes that a delegation will arrive in September to sign the ratification of a trade agreement. But be careful, it’s not just because of the piece of paper, but because of how they can complement each other. Because in today’s world, you either join forces or you watch TikTok while others do business.

Cell phone registration: deadlines by digit and how to do it

Deadline dates and steps to register your mobile line with CURP and facial photo.

Deadlines by digit and steps for registration

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the IFT require that each mobile line—prepaid or postpaid—be linked to the CURP and a facial photograph of the owner. The goal is to reduce the use of anonymous numbers in illicit activities. Failure to comply leads to suspension of service within 72 hours after the assigned limit.

The deadlines are distributed according to the last digit of the number:

  • Digit 0: until August 15
  • Digit 1: until August 31
  • Digit 2: until September 15
  • Digit 3: until September 30
  • Digit 4: until October 15
  • Digit 5: until October 31
  • Digit 6: until November 15
  • Digit 7: until November 30
  • Digit 8: until December 15
  • Digit 9: until December 31

Users can complete the process online or in branches. For Telcel, you must enter www.telcel.com/vinculatulinea, capture the ten-digit number, attach official identification (INE or passport) and complete facial verification. In Movistar, it is accessed through an SMS link or on its portal, where the CURP is registered and the identity is validated with the camera. AT&T allows you to do this from its self-management tool or by sending a text message to the official code with the citizen identification data.

Those facing digital difficulties can go to each company’s customer service centers, where support is free.

SEP calendar: the first bridge of the 2026-2027 cycle

Bridge in September? This says the SEP 2026-2027 calendar.

SEP calendar: the first rest dates

The 2026-2027 school year will start on Monday, August 31, 2026. This is established by the official calendar published in the Official Gazette of the Federation. Just a few weeks later, students could have their first break.

September concentrates two dates without classes. September 16 is a mandatory day of rest to commemorate the beginning of Independence. In addition, on September 25 there will be no school activities either, due to the session of the School Technical Council.

September 15 is marked as a memorial day. Schools will carry out civic activities, but it has not been confirmed that it will be non-working. Although versions are circulating about a possible five-day mega bridge, no federal educational authority has announced it. Any modification will depend on the SEP.

For now, the first real bridge could occur if 14 or 15 are added to 16. But there is no official decision. Parents should wait for communications from the Ministry of Public Education.
