The band gets off the platform, but does not remain silent
The news spread like wildfire: Café Tacvba asking for their music to disappear from Spotify. It is not a minor issue for one of the most emblematic bands of rock in Spanish. A whim? Not at all.
In conference, Meme del Real, the bassist, made it clear. The initiative came from Rubén Albarrán, but the entire group supported it. Consistency above all.
“As a group we are sensitive to what each member needs and, with that sense of team, community and coherence, we are supporting that message.”
For those who follow them, this should come as no surprise. His speech has always been linked to social issues. Del Real mentioned several fronts: the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the use of artificial intelligence and, of course, the eternal problems with payments to artists.
A rest and a parallel path
What is interesting is the context. The band is in a rest period. His future will be defined in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Meme is on his own musical journey.
He has just released “The Mountain Ignited”, his first solo album. And it already has a date to present it live: February 19 at the Teatro Metropólitan.
“Right now I’m in a parallel creative process and that keeps me busy. I enjoy it.”
So there things are. A legendary band taking a firm stand against a digital giant, while one of its members explores new sounds alone. The message is put on the table. Now it’s time to see what’s next.
