Madrid wins again and does not give up
They needed this. After four games without tasting victory, Real Madrid won again. Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior scored goals at the Bernabéu for a 2-1 victory over Alavés.
The black streak, which included elimination in the Champions League, was behind us. They are now six points behind Barcelona. The League, although difficult, is still alive.
A game of relief and some whistles
The start was hesitant. The public at the Bernabéu was restless with Alavés’ chances. There were boos during the team’s initial suffering.
Calm came with quality. At 30 minutes, Mbappé opened the scoring with a deflected shot that fooled the goalkeeper. The Frenchman, the league’s top scorer, thus broke his drought since February.
Vinícius extended the lead in the 50th with a powerful long-distance shot, also ending his own poor scoring streak.
“What always makes me happy is that Vinicius changed the whistles for applause. For me, that is the important thing,”
said coach Álvaro Arbeloa after the match.
Alavés, fighting to avoid relegation, pulled one back in added time with a goal from Toni Martínez. It was a bit of a nervy finish, and some whistles were heard after the final whistle.
The mentality is still intact
The negative note was the injury of Éder Militão just before the break. The club reported that it does not seem serious.
But the important thing was the group’s message. Arbeloa made it clear:
“Until mathematically there are opportunities, there is a league. Until then we will continue fighting it,”
stated the Madrid coach. “We have to be able to demand much more from ourselves.”
It’s the right attitude. Celebrate the victory, learn from your mistakes and continue fighting for every ball. Madrid breathes, but knows that it cannot relax. There are six finals left.
