Educational investment in Jalisco for the next school year
Starting in September, the state of Jalisco will launch an ambitious educational project with the opening of 20 full-time schools, aimed at optimizing the learning and comprehensive development of students. Half of these campuses will be located in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, while municipalities such as Encarnación de Díaz, Teocaltiche and Villa Hidalgo will also house some of these institutions. However, the authorities have not revealed the exact location of the other educational centers.
Financial breakdown and pedagogical objectives
The Secretary of Education, Juan Carlos Flores Miramontes, explained that 19 million pesos will be invested in this program. Of this amount, 14 million will be allocated to the purchase of food, guaranteeing adequate nutrition for students, while the remaining 5 million will cover the payment to teaching staff. This initial budget corresponds only to the first semester of the school year, but it is anticipated that the amount could be doubled in the fiscal year of 2026.
The schools will operate with an extended day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., integrating not only the standard academic curriculum, but also reinforcement courses, cultural and sports activities and workshops on healthy lifestyles. In addition, all the necessary supplies will be provided to guarantee the optimal functioning of these spaces. “The goal is to create an environment where students can develop academically and personally,” explained Flores Miramontes.
Selection criteria and background
The chosen schools meet two main characteristics: they operate in a single shift and have already been previously used for extended shifts. “We prioritize schools that have received recent renovations or are about to do so,” said the official. Likewise, he highlighted that the acceptance by parents was a determining factor in the selection.
This program resumes a model that was in effect for a decade, but was suspended three years ago due to lack of federal funds. “Now, with state resources, we reactivated an initiative that demonstrated tangible benefits in school performance and social inclusion,” added Flores Miramontes.
