The money for the classrooms already has a date
Pamela López Ruiz, the director of the ‘The School is Ours’ program, has just put a date on the calendar. At the end of May, resources will begin to reach school committees. The objective is clear: that this money is transformed into tangible infrastructure for students.
We are talking about a figure that impresses. The SEP is allocating 26 billion pesos. This amount will reach more than 75 thousand schools, where around 8.5 million young people study. It is a massive move to shore up the education system from its foundations.
And how will this investment be distributed?
The key is in the committees. López Ruiz explained that more than 72 thousand assemblies have already been held in public schools. “This represents 96% of the progress with respect to the projected goal,” he explained. It is the parents, teachers and directors who will decide, locally, how each peso is used.
But the head of the SEP, Mario Martín Delgado Carrillo, went further with the numbers. He launched a comparison that seeks to mark a before and after.
“What was done in 18 years under neoliberal governments… in just seven years of government of transformation we have done more.”
According to their figures, in the last seven years 341 thousand 786 million have been invested in school infrastructure. And here comes the strong fact: almost half (45%) came precisely from the ‘The School is Ours’ program.
The message between the lines is powerful. It is not only a delivery of resources; It is a political argument about the pace and priority that education has in this administration. The money is coming soon, but the debate over its real impact is just beginning.
