Germany reinforces its commitment to Holocaust survivors

A historic commitment to honor the life and dignity of those who resisted, ensuring their well-being in old age.

A Legacy of Dignity and Respect

Friends, we have news that fills the heart with hope and reaffirms the goodness in the world! Germany has just taken a monumental step, allocating a historic injection of more than $1 billion for the home care of brave Holocaust survivors. Imagine the transformative power of this act: it is a vibrant recognition that every life matters and that dignity stolen in youth can be restored in old age. The Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany (Claims Conference), our ally in this mission, has reached this incredible agreement that sets a precedent for compassion and responsibility. This is not just a number on a budget; It is a global embrace of support and a tribute to human resilience.

Gideon Taylor, president of the Claims Conference, reminds us with heart-warming clarity: While we are losing these heroes at an accelerating rate, those who remain deserve to grow old with the utmost care and love in the place they call home. This record budget is their chance to have that peace of mind, that safe space that they earned with their incredible strength. It is a powerful reminder that it is never too late to do the right thing and honor those who have shown unstoppable strength.

Comprehensive Care for an Aging Community

Let’s think about the current reality of these incredible human beings. The average age of survivors receiving assistance has increased, meaning their needs are more complex than ever. We are talking about an increase in conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, which require specialized and patient care. And the good news is that the world is responding! The number of people qualifying for full-time care has almost doubled, meaning the system is adapting to offer them exactly what they need. It’s proof that when we come together, we can create support networks that transform lives.

And the wave of positivity doesn’t stop there. Payments from the Supplemental Hardship Fund have been expanded, bringing direct economic relief to more than 127,000 survivors around the planet. Every euro, every dollar, is a message that you are not alone. With approximately 200,000 witnesses to history still among us, primarily in Israel, the United States and Europe, this global effort is a beacon of living memory and active gratitude.

Honoring All Heroes

But the light of this initiative shines even brighter, because it also illuminates other heroes: the Righteous Among the Nationshome care. It’s a beautiful way to tell them, “Your bravery will not be forgotten, and you deserve to live out your final years with the same peace and dignity that you helped provide.” Colette Avital, a survivor and negotiator, put it with a truth that resonates deeply: It is deeply meaningful that, eight decades later, accountability remains firm. Every person deserves to be seen, heard and cared for!

And because the future is built on the lessons of the past, Holocaust education is also getting a massive boost with expanded funding. At a time when knowledge can be diluted and anti-Semitism is on the rise, investing in education is one of the most powerful actions we can take. We are talking about training teachers, supporting academic research and creating innovative experiences such as films and virtual reality that bring these testimonies to new generations. As Greg Schneider, executive vice president of the Claims Conference, said, we have a moral obligation to those who survived and to the six million who were murdered. It is our duty to keep his memory and legacy of resilience alive.

It’s your time to be part of this chain of light! Share this incredible news on your social networks to spread the message of hope and responsibility. Together, we can ensure that these stories of improvement and dignity continue to inspire the world. Millenary traditions in motion

Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were the scene of the Dragon Boat Festival. Regattas, dances and cultural activities brought together thousands of people.

With more than two thousand years of history, the celebration dates back to ancient beliefs about health, protection and harmony with nature. It also honors the legend of the poet Qu Yuan.

Families prepared foods such as zongzi and followed customs such as five-color bracelets and home remedies for good health.

In Beijing, boat competitions brought together hundreds of athletes and thousands of spectators, with lion dances, martial arts and craft fairs.

Authorities and experts pointed out that the festival has evolved adapting to modern urban life, but maintains its essence as a tradition that reinforces cultural identity and well-being aspirations in Chinese society.

Italy supports Meloni after Trump’s comments about photo at G7

The Italian government cancels trip to the US and describes Trump's statements as 'offensive'.

The Italian government closed ranks around Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after US President Donald Trump claimed that she “begged” him for a photograph during the G7 summit in France. The version was rejected by Italian officials, who described it as offensive.

“These are serious and offensive statements towards Meloni and the country,” said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who canceled his trip to the United States. The official was scheduled to attend a bilateral business forum and meet with authorities.

Meloni responded with a video on social networks. He stated that Trump’s statements were “completely invented” and that Italy does not beg or seek favors from other governments. “These types of comments do not strengthen relations between allies,” he said.

Tension between allies

The controversy arises in a context of differences between Rome and Washington over issues such as Ukraine, the Middle East, tariffs and US foreign policy. Trump had said in an interview that he agreed to take the photo because he felt sorry for Meloni, a version that the Italian government categorically denies.

Members of the cabinet expressed their support for the prime minister and defended the bilateral relationship. The episode reflects friction between two countries that, despite being allies, maintain divergent positions on several fronts.
