Musician Lil Nas X posted a video on Instagram where he talks about his mental health and confirms that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since then, he has been attending therapy with a psychiatrist and a therapist, he said in the nearly three-minute recording.

“When I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder, I feel like I had known it for the past few years, but I didn’t want to admit it,” shared the artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill.

The update comes months after an incident with Los Angeles police last August. Authorities arrested him after a report of a man walking half-naked down a boulevard. He was charged with assaulting officers, but a judge in April allowed him to enter a mental health program so the charges could be dismissed if he completes two years of treatment.

The court determined that the altercation was a result of undiagnosed bipolar disorder at the time. Lil Nas X spent three days in jail and was released on $75,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty.

In the video, the “Old Town Road” singer said he feels better. “I’m much better. I’m creating freely. And there’s less fear in my heart,” he said. He also announced that he is working on new music: “I’ve been making music for seven years. I wanted you to know that new music is coming.”
