FGR denies that Farías brothers are linked to deaths

The Prosecutor's Office assures that there is no direct evidence against the Farías for deprivation of life.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) issued a statement denying that there is evidence linking the brothers Manuel Roberto and Fernando Farías Laguna with the deprivation of life of public servants.

The agency rejected the information published in the note “FGR: the Farías executed 3 sailors and prosecutor”, and assured that the Federal Public Ministry does not have any accusation that establishes its participation in those deaths.

“This institution reiterates that, to date, there is no direct data that establishes the possible participation of the people mentioned in the note with the deprivation of the lives of various civilians and public servants,” indicated the prosecutor’s office.

However, the publication of EL UNIVERSAL was based on a copy of the “Resolution regarding the request for an arrest warrant” where agents from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) recorded various journalistic notes and intelligence data that point directly to the Farías Laguna.

The Farías and the fiscal huachicol network

The investigations describe that the criminal organization of Vice Admiral Manuel Roberto Farías Laguna – held in El Altiplano – and Rear Admiral Fernando Farías Laguna – detained in Argentina and in the process of extradition – was related to a tax huachicol network. According to the report, they could immediately identify those who reported them and anticipate the authorities, especially at customs.

The article also states that the death of Rear Admiral Fernando Rubén Guerrero Alcantar, a member of the Navy Secretariat, occurred after he denounced in a letter the existence and operation of said network that the brothers allegedly led.

The FGR clarified that the investigations continue without charges being made for these events so far.

US increases Mexican sugar quota to 550 thousand tons

Mexican sugar quota rises from 180 thousand to 550 thousand tons after bilateral agreement.

New export quota

The United States increased the export quota of Mexican sugar from 180 thousand to 550 thousand tons for the next cycle. The agreement, reached after negotiations between authorities from both countries and industry representatives, could be expanded to up to one million tons, although part of the additional volume is still awaiting authorization.

Juan Cortina Gallardo, vice president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and former president of the National Chamber of Sugar and Alcohol Industries (CNIAA), explained that what has been confirmed is just over 550 thousand tons. The rest of the quota will depend on a publication scheduled for February of next year.

Negotiation process

The businessman pointed out that the increase was the result of more than six months of negotiations with Mexican officials, including Julio Berdegué Sacristán, coordinator of international agri-food affairs. He warned that it will be necessary to observe the behavior of sugar consumption, production and imports in the United States during the coming months.

The previous reduction in the quota had affected the Mexican sugar sector after the United States modified the formula for calculating import quotas in 2022. To avoid additional restrictions, Mexico raised tariffs on sugar imports, with rates of up to 156% for cane sugar and 210.44% for refined liquid sweetener.

Kenia López Rabadán asks the governor of Baja California for leave

Leaked audios call into question the management of the governor of Baja California.

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Kenia López Rabadán, requested that the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila, request a license from the position for “personal ethics.” This while the leaked audios are being investigated where conversations about security information and negotiations with United States authorities supposedly appear.

The PAN legislator described the case as delicate. He pointed out that if the governor offered to share data from the security tables, it is strategic information to protect the population.

López Rabadán indicated that the matter goes beyond the cancellation of the president’s visa. The recordings, recognized by Marina del Pilar herself, raise doubts about a possible mix between personal matters and public responsibilities.

The federal representative maintained that she is not seeking to make advance judgments, but rather to clarify the limits between the private efforts of the governor and her role as responsible for security in Baja California, an entity that faces high levels of violence.
