Justice delayed, but eager: 47 years behind bars
Guadalajara, Jalisco – Erick Eduardo, the guy who thought he could play the villain of a cheap horror movie, just got what he deserved: 47 and a half years in prison for femicide. Yes, almost five decades to reflect on his “masterpiece” on March 14, 2021 in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. Spoiler: there will be no sequel.
The macabre script of a coward
The plot (because this was not a crime, it was a nightmare script) began when Erick, the protagonist of this horror, arrived at the house where he lived with his 18-year-old girlfriend in the Villa Galicia subdivision. Transport? A platform vehicle, because even for that it was tacky. He woke her up, forced her to go upstairs – as if it were a bad episode of Black Mirror – and they headed to Cajititlán. During the trip, the “brave man” began to attack the victim and threaten the driver, because of course, violence is his favorite language.
Upon arrival, the climax of his personal horror movie: he threw her out of the car and shot her in the head. End of transmission. But there is no applause here, only indignation.
Justice, slow but relentless
The authorities, after doing their job better than on many other occasions (yes, it is a miracle), managed to gather enough evidence for a judge of the Unitary Prosecution Court to release the sentence: 47 years and 6 months behind bars, plus a fine of 448,100 pesos for reparation of the damage. Money that, obviously, will never compensate for the pain, but at least it is a symbolic “here’s your change.”
Moral? Justice sometimes takes a while, but when it comes, it comes with all the force. Although, honestly, I wish these types of stories would stop being repeated like a bad meme.
