The request for impeachment against Maru Campos fades
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Kenia López Rabadán, reported that the deadline to ratify the request for impeachment against the governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, expired. The applicants, Morena legislators from the local Congress before San Lázaro, had three days to confirm the request, but they did not do so.
“What does it mean that it is not ratified? That there is no longer a formal request for impeachment against Governor Maru Campos,” López Rabadán explained in an interview. The PAN member added: “It will always be good to be on the right side of history, of the law.” He also rejected comparisons with Sinaloa in terms of security: “It offends the intelligence of Mexicans.”
López Rabadán attended an event in Chihuahua in support of Campos, along with former presidents Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderón, and the national leader of the PAN, Jorge Romero Herrera.
Background of the case
On April 18, 2026, agents from the CIA and the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office secured a drug laboratory in the entity. A day later, two CIA agents and two local prosecutors died in a car accident in the Sierra Tarahumara. This led to the resignation of Attorney General César Jauregui, an attempted impeachment against Campos, a march by Morena in defense of sovereignty, and summonses from the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic.
The lack of ratification of the impeachment trial is seen as support for the governor amid political and security tensions in the state.
